Hiccups and Belching

Hello everyone question my dad has a bad case of the hiccups he goes weeks non stop. It affects his breathing because sometimes he cannot get any air between breathing. We have tried everything he is on pills that do not work the doctor says that he will have to live with it. Please help I think it's some underlying disease he might have that the doctors missed. Is there a doctor we can go to???

I’m not a medic but has he been offered an endoscopy? He should push for further investigation

Hi attaway5. I agree with J1707. Endoscopy would rule out the presence of Helicobacter Pylori bacteria. Good luck.

I feel for you. That’s not funny. I’m sure you’ve tried everything on the net. I take a glass of warm water and take sips in very quick succession. By the time I’ve got to 21 sips it’s gone. Ginger beer might be worth a try. Can’t believe the doc says live with it.

Sorry to hear that he is really suffering with it. Sometimes I get an extreme case which really hurt.

Cure for me: lie on the floor, very flat, relax. Breathe in and out very gently. They usually go within 3 to 4 hiccups. Don't try lying on a bed or couch it doesn't work. It must be something about stretching the diaphragm. I don't know if it will work for his extreme case but worth a try! Let me know if it works!
