Hate to mention the C word but.....

I have been diagnosed overlap mixed connective tissue disease and mild lung fibrosis. I wonder when they talk about coronavirus and those worst affected have “underlying health conditions” would this be something I should be considering! I don’t wish to overreact but just not really sure if conditions such as ours put at us more risk? What are your thoughts?? Ps I have recently had a chest infection been on antibiotics and been told to stop my mtx till I’m fully recovered! I am beginning to feel symptoms more now so going to take my mtx again on Monday. Also do I just restart 8 tablets or build up gradually? I was just going to start straight back with the full dose. Thanks all for your advice and keep well all xxx

Hi Melarky

Unfortunately we are at risk we take immunosuppressant medication so we are susceptible to any infection. I too have had a chest infection. 5 days after finishing antibiotics should be enough to restart our medication. A week or two break shouldn’t cause too much problem . I have restarted my methotrexate and too at my normal dose .

Thanks J1707 sorry to hear you have had chest infection too. Seems there is a lot of it about. I will restart in my usual 20mg on Monday then. Perhaps it’s in my head but joints defo feeling more stiff, hot and puffy over last few days and struggling to move as well during the evening and especially at night! Keep well 😊

Right now there is virtually no risk in the UK, so I really wouldn’t worry. Follow sensible precautions of hand washing etc and don’t fret.

(Personally I’d start at your normal dose if you’ve only been off a few weeks)

Thanks for the advice. Just thought I’d ask the question as wondered if others had similar thoughts. I agree it’s about being sensible and more risk getting normal flu! I will be restarting my mtx on Monday in my 20mg dose. Thanks again. Take care 😊

Speak to your medical team & ask their advice....we cannot give individual advice as immunosuppression is at different levels for all of us.

Obviously take all thev normal precautions like washing your hands covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze and dispos of your tissues in a safe place or burn them.

But don’t be alarmed by anything you read or hear that other people have experienced you really need to speak to your own Doctor Who knows your medical condition.

I’m sure we are lucky to be in a country that seems to have so few cases and that the health authorities seem to have it all under control.

That is a question I would like an answer to as well. I have had two doses of antibiotics and the last time I went to the drs he said it was a virus, Well this virus refuses to go and I am feeling worse as each day goes on. The drs, for me I think.xxxx
