It sounds as if she needs some medical advice, but most probably should not be taking the biologics until recovered from shingles. Whoever diagnosed her should have given advice?

It’s me with RA been looking after granddaughter through half term and I’m not sure what to do as the advice is a bit confusing. Have rung the advice line and am waiting for a reply thank you.

Shingles is contagious prior to the arrival of the spots, then until they have dry scabbed over. You should not use the same towels or have close contact ..I developed it whilst on a Biologic & it made no difference to my RA...but apparently I was very lucky.

You shouldn’t have the Shingles vaccine without speaking to your Rheumatologist....& he will probably say not to have it as it is a Live vaccine.

If you have had chicken pox already then shingles is already in your system

Follow the advice of your Biologics team as it is one of the "mentions" when taking the drug. Then you have ammunition if you have a problem with your GP. If Health care at home deliver to you the pharmacists there advise also. The most infectious time is before the scabs dry over. Good luck.

Our grandson has just had chicken pox; I take sulfasalazine for RA. Hubby takes Prednisolone for respiratory condition. We were both told to stay away from grandson until all his spots were scabbed over.
