Tooth ache after starting methotrexate ? And no signs of this drug helping me yet!

Started taking methotrexate 2 months ago and for the past 4/5 weeks several of my teeth have started to bother me a lot. I go to the dentist regularly and have good teeth. Any body else had this?

Also I don’t seem to be having any relief from taking these drug. My pain is certainly the same if not worse. I’m back at the hospital in a few weeks.

Hello

Methotrexate can cause dental issues so worth visiting the dentist.

I'm not having much luck with methotrexate either sadly.

Hi Jane, I have been on the methotrexate too & about the same time on the course as you had teeth problems, the dentist told me this is common, also I was told the methotrexate doesn’t work properly until you’ve been taking it for 3 months. Good luck.

Yes when I started methotrexate my dentist sighed so I thought this is no good. And yes I seem to have to be very fussy with my gums etc. sometimes I have neuralgia pain. I have finally got used to the ups and downs and have also been told that rheumatoid uncontrolled is hard on teeth and gums. I have even tried meditation to not grind my teeth when sleeping.

Yes i was on mtx it was good for my r/a but effected my lungs. Liver.blood .etc.i had to come off it .been on sulfz and benapali.

My teeth were good b4 i started mtx i get regular checks. But i have had so many problems with my teeth since. But when you say anything they dismiss it.

I think we should we should be checked for free because of this .i sympathise my love .we don.t need other problems x

Hi Jane, i didnt notice any relief from methotraxate until they then added sulfasalazine to the mix and now I have started noticing a bit of a difference over the last 2 weeks. I started methotrexate late feb. I have the same thing with my teeth its on and off...so many different side effects from all these meds it feels neverending but got to be patient and soldier on to find the right dosage and meds that work for you. You’ll get there stay positive💪💪xx

Hi Jane went on mtx about 3 years ago. Firstly it takes 3 months before you feel any improvement ( usually ) and for 15 months all fine but then I started to feel breathless and really bad coughing which was so difficult as it kept me awake so much but had no problems with my teeth. I went to the consultant and even had a struggle to talk to him but he said their are 3 or 4 medication you can swop too and he put me on salsa one and touch wood Ime coping so much better so all Ime saying is arthritic medication always takes 12 weeks to kick in n by then wen its over the 12 weeks hopefully ure teeth will improve however if not its best u go back and ask to change ure medication also eating raspberrys apparently help the athritus too !! Anyway hope u improve as I 👍🏻know it can be difficult but just stay strong

Been on MTX for about a year, Symponi Aria infusions for 4 months, Sulfasalazine for 2 months, and feel worse than ever. My teeth are a mess as well, and seem to have gotten worse since starting on all of these meds. So yes, I do think there is a connection. Hard to prove though. Best of luck.
