Had my rheumy appointment last Thursday, which was Brought forward from 1st April. My rheumy said there's obvious signs of inflammation in my hands but she wants me to to have scans because I had only been off prednisolone for a week and that maybe masked more inflammation.
I'm in so much pain and swelling in my hands, elbows and wrists and last night I resorted to wearing support tights on my elbows haha (I must buy some elbow supports).
It's just a waiting game now I suppose, hoping the appointment for the scan hurries up.
I was diagnosed with sero neg RA years ago and in 2018 went into remmision, now something has come back to literally put my life on hold.
I dread going to bed at night because I know I've got to wake up.
Gentle hugs xx

Hi EnglishRose63. Sorry to hear about this. My RA started in my hands. I couldn't figure out which pain was worse, this or when I broke my back in between my shoulder blades (two wedge compression fractures) in 2003/4? If I wanted to move one hand during the night, I had to help move it with the other hand which was also exceptionally painful and swollen. I couldn't wear anything for support as the pressure was too much. Good luck with it all, hope you feel better very soon. x
Oh this sounds really awful..... this condition can be so cruel and is so unpredictable at times. I am not surprised you feel like you do right now and any of us that have been in a similar place to you right now; I imagine can empathise with your situation and that feeling. Feeling like you don't want to wake up is the pits and i hope you have some supportive people around you, to help be with you in this horrible time...... Lets hope that this awful flare up helps you to get medication reviewed so you are able to be started on something that will get you back into remission eventually; but at least in less pain soon. if you feel isolated and sad then keep talking here, so you are offloading a little. If you really feel desperate then if you are in the UK, The Samaritans can be great when you feel unsure how to cope and want someone to listen, you don't need to be suicidal to call them, just in need......
Take care EnglishRose63 and keep us posted of your progress.
Ultrasound is next Monday. Its been a waiting game and I'm still off work. Not really sure what to expect at the scan.
Can I ask the person doing the scan if he/she can see any inflammation or will I have to wait even longer for the results?
After the scan should I ask my gp for a steroid shot to ease the pain and swelling until my rheumy team get the results so I can at least go back to work?
