Rheumatoid nodules

Hi everyone

I haven’t posted here for a while, but I’d like to know if anyone else has developed nodules after starting MTX. They are mainly on my hands and a couple on my feet. What can be done about them if they start causing problems? ( Sorry if the picture of my hand is unclear )

Thanks

Chris_O

A friend of a friend is having radiotherapy for RA nodules on her hands. I fancy it might be a trial of treatment. Happening in Manchester uk.

Are you sure they are nodules? I have what I always thought was a nodule or ganglion in the same spot as the one by your wrist, but the rheumy I saw a few weeks back said it was a sack of synovial fluid.

I have nodules in several places. Had a pretty big one on my elbow, which has since disappeared. I did ask my rheumy about having it removed, she said only if it's troubling me as there can be problems with healing.

Hi Chris_O

Sorry, missed your introduction to the site way back.. so belated welcome!

Those bumps and lumps at joints below fingertips seem to be typical OA ie Heberden’s Nodes.

If that is one area of concern on the top of the wrist, where it appears swollen, probably flare of OA or RA ie synovial fluid.

RA nodules show with advanced disease, or so we are told. If concerned, best get it checked by GP or Rheumatologist.

Plus, good link posted by nomoreheels in a thread recently ard.bmj.com/content/annrheu...

Good link! Nb Hebdens nodes or bouchards nodes of OA are bone growth due to wear and repair rather than fluid sacs.

Hi chris -O I have had rheumatoid modules on my feet and I had to have them removed as it was like having big stones in my shoes. I am on methotrexate and benepali. I have had numerous operations in my feet. At first it was good . But wasn't happy when the modules appeared. I have not got them on my hands. My hands are very badly deformed because of rheaumatoid. Some people can live with the nodules. You will just have to see if they cause you problems chris . If so you could ask your doctors advice. I hope you get some satisfaction either way.
