First biological injection today

I had my first biological injection today Erelzi biosimilar (etanercept) . Very good nurse very thorough. Quite a large pen with a lot of liquid. It went ok but I did get dizzy and my hands trembled after 20 mins it lasted about 15 mins then I got very tired. If this is all I get with this and it works. I can cope. Really want this to work

Good luck with it. It’s done wonders for me. It took a while to start working so be patient. I find it least painful in my tummy. I wonder if maybe your nerves got the better of you that first time and that’s why you got a bit shaky. It’s a big deal with the change and the paperwork, waiting, nurse visit, something new. You’ll be fine next week.

Hiya,

I have been injecting Etanercept for 5years + in its original form Enbrel and now Erelzi. Firstly I have found no difference in its benefits since the change to a biosimilar. I think it is a miracle treatment and it has worked for me, incidentally I take nothing else. You can get injection site reactions which is the most common side effect but fortunately I have not had that side effect(touch wood). Like you I do feel tired for a short while after injecting but hey the gain is far better.

Hang on in there I'm sure you won't look back. I have had RA since I was 22 years old I am now 73 and believe me I tried all the drugs, had numerous flare ups, joint injections but My advice is to stay positive and say to yourself on a daily basis this RA is not going to beat me you will find that helps as well.

Hope this helps.

I’m just about to start this (today!) I didn’t realise it erelzi was a bio similar. I was on humira and switched to a bio similar and it stopped working so I’m anxious. And actually don’t feel like I want to take it. Would feel better if it was actually etanercept. 🥴

in reply to Rooby-Dooby

I was told I was starting etanercept was shocked when I was given elerzi but it’s working

That’s really good to hear. I’m just shocked I was not told, feel a bit misled. And I’m not hopeful because of my experience with the biosimilar I used before.

I’m giving it a go...I have no other choice at the moment. If it works: great 😊 if it does, I move on to find something else which does....! I’ll keep an open mind and try to be positive!

I also have Benepali and yes it does sting and the effort of pushing the pen down is hard for me. I've found that by warning it using body heat (bra) it does sting less. And it does drain me but it is early days. It is working though with less pain and stiffness so long may it continue.
