Orencia and muscle pain

Good morning

I'm on my 6th injection of Orencia. Has anyone experienced muscle pain while taking it?

Any reviews of Orencia would be appreciated ☺

I had a lot of muscle and abdominal pain when I started Orencia a year or so ago. It has slowly lessened but still occasionally flares up again but it’s reliably just on the day after infusion for me now. Orencia is working quite well for me but my heated blanket is still my best friend the day after.

Obviously it takes awhile to get the full effect of Orencia? Some saying 6 months.

How long for you to get full (good) effects

Orencia contains abatacept and it is prescribed for treating rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis causes pain and affect mobility. This medication does not produce muscle pain.

Hi Justme57. I am taking Orencia and have been for 12 months. I have found it very effective but it did take about 10 weeks for it to significantly make a difference. Has the muscle pain only started since you began the Orencia? I had a similar experience when I was prescribed Roactemra( Tocilizumab) in that not only did it not reduce my inflammation I started experiencing extreme muscle pain. After 13 weeks I was taken off it and the muscle pain subsided. I was then prescribed Orencia a few weeks later which, as I say, has worked for me. We all react differently to biologics and what works for one person, may not for another. It might help if you keep a log of your symptoms to discuss with the rheumatologist next time. Hopefully it will do the job in time. Good luck.

I have only been taking Orencia for about 5 weeks now. This past week I experienced severe muscle pain in my quad muscle about 4 hours after taking the injection and lasted throughout the day and into the night. I see from the warning information from Orencia that this medication can cause muscle and joint pain so I will discuss with my doctor.
