Hi all. My grandson has been diagnosed with hand foot and mouth. Should i be concerned because I am on biological drugs.
Hand foot and mouth disease : Hi all. My grandson has... - NRAS
Hand foot and mouth disease
I would ask your rheumy or nurse what you should do as they are medically qualified and know what you’re on and your history. I hope you don’t catch it .
Probably ..... get advice from your consultant.
I was diagnosed with foot and mouth disease today, and posted earlier, it has been rumbling around for a few days. It is contagious, so probably best to err on the side of caution.
My GP advised me to stop baricitinib ( biologic) until I hear from rheumatology, hopefully tomorrow.
( coincidence we both posted today!)
HFMD is contagious so do contact your rheumy nurse for advice....it’s not usually too dangerous for children...but I’d avoid contact with him until you’ve taken advice.
I believe HFMD is a virus and usually contagious for approximately 7-10 days in children. It is spread like the ‘flu’ through water droplets from sneezing etc and obviously through poo in nappies etc. If it was me I would avoid contact with your grandson for a week or so until he is over it. It’s usually reasonably mild in children and although they can have a temperature and feel unwell they can get over it quickly. If you have no choice and have to have contact then the normal washing of hands and surfaces and obviously kissing should be avoided if possible.
