Prolia medication or Similar and dental treatment

Prolia: I broke a tooth last week and my Dentist said the tooth needs to come out but he didn't want the responsability if the gum didn't heal due to me having prolia injections. I checked with my GP yesterday and she confirmed that they advise not to have any dental work. I have a referral to see an oral surgeon. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they were able to get treatment for the broken tooth.

Thank you, Sue

I was told to get all my dental work done before I started Prolia. I had a tooth pulled by an oral surgeon. He cut a little and pulled it out.

The Oral Surgeon said not to take Prolia unless my bones were very thin.

Keep your appointment with the Oral Surgeon.

Thank you for your reply, I haven't seen the oral surgeon as yet but I do intend to soon. I have just had eye surgery which went well I am o my last week of eye drops. It has been over a year since I had my last prolia injection so I am hoping I will be ok. My rheumy who suggested I change to the injections didn't explain about the dental problem. A lot of people seem to have dental problems, some due to the meds.

Take care

Hi Bernieisinthe, I saw an oral surgeon and had my broken tooth out last Wednesday. He thought that he would need to cut the gum and give me stitches. I had neither the tooth came out easy. I have to wait and see how long it will take to heal. The surgeon feels the healing shouldn't take long but not to have prolia injections until it is fully healed, minimum 3 mths. He advised that with new research the chances of the gum not healing is now in the single % which confirms what I read regarding a Dr in the USA wrote. I will have to wait and see.
