Methotrexate Marked /Unmarked

Am sure this has been mentioned before but do many of us see unmarked tablets as a worry or do we put trust in the pharmacist.

I took a long while to get onto MTX ,got over the side effects now the ones I get are unmarked and i ve been sick taking them. I dont need the stress of trusting that a pharmacist has got the right tablet or that it s some cheap stuff. Oneon the right issued by my Rheumatologist..one on the left via my gp/pharmacist

As they are generic different manufacturers make them just like Paracetamol etc. it could be that one of the ingredients in certain brands doesn't suit you?

Explain to your pharmacist and ask if you can go back on your old stuff.

My pharmacist changed my hydroxy to another brand when I asked him..no problem.

Ask your pharmacist whether you have been given a different brand, or just loose tablets of the same brand. As TheBoys says some brands use different fillers, so you could be intolerant. But I think all the brands should be small yellow tablets as that’s a safety measure.

I don’t have any problem with generics, it makes me happy that drug companies are making less profit out of me.

Hi, may be you should always ask for the original because sometimes the generic brands cause different side effects. If you are worried about the difference in the look of them looks for them on the net pages and I’m sure you’ll get your answers. Good luck.

Many thanks . I still find all this dealing with pharmacist doctors and hospitals a bit bewildering along with my own stress and anxiety.

Yes I agree because I’m on similar boat but I don’t want to go in details about now. Any way since July last year I’m on the Mary go around, started with pneumonia and still waiting to start RA meds because I have to take long term antibiotics…… plus other Autoimmune conditions! I hope your doctors give right answers soon.

Thanks! I know how you feel.i ve had pneumonia couple of times myself and taken nearly a year of tests, waiting etc to be clear to get MTX. I ll keep at it!

This isa common problem for many drugs. Most chemists are part of a change and often have to stock the cheapest drug. My mother before she died had problems when she was in hospital they used a different brand and she had all sorts of problems eventually it was confirmed that her original brand worked best. Chemists in a chain have no option other than to stock what their head office tell them . It’s always about money
