sulfasalazine and methotrexate

I’m coming off sulfasalazine and starting methotrexate - but I can’t remember if my rheumy said to stop the sulf the day before starting methotrexate; or prior to that. I’m sure there are plenty on here who have done this - how did you go about it please? I will pop in and speak to pharmacist when I get the chance too 😊😊

I did the same a few years ago but I can't remember sorry and I wouldn't want to guess. I think you should contact rheumatology and ask them.Hope the MTX works. Best wishes. Seb.

It did work, very well for a while. Hopefully you've been prescribed folic acid as well. I took this six times a week which really helped with initial side effects.

I have - prescribed to take it once a week, either 48 hours before or 48 hours after the methotrexate. Glad it worked well for you. I’ve been in sulf for over 11 years and it worked well until early this year 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Well fingers crossed for you. I found once a week for folic acid wasn't enough. Just bear it in mind and don't hesitate to ask for the dose to be increased.

Perhaps check with your pharmacist. I'm on sulfasalazine and methotrexate. The only time I had to stop and was when I was switching from one biologic to another.

I’ve been on both for ages. So probably not too much to worry about.
