Hydroxychloroquine

Hi

I have been on Hydroxychloroquine for a few weeks now and have noticed big bruises on my legs, I don’t recall knocking them at all, is this a side effect anybody else is suffering from ?

I am also on Leflunomide, Tramadol and Pregablin but I have been taking Tramadol and Pregablin for about 4 years and haven’t had this before.

Be good to hear from anybody else experiencing the same

I also found I bruised really easily and badly when I was on hydroxychloroquine for two years, thought it was the naproxen at the time but now I’ve been off it for 6months now I don’t bruise like that any more so must have been the hydroxy! I also blamed substantial hair loss on methotrexate but that didn’t stop when I stopped mtx only when I stopped hydroxy! So think it was the culprit for that too! At least all the horrible side effects from one of these drugs seem to stop almost immediately you stop the drug if that’s a comfort!

I would tell your medical team to be on the safe side. Unexplained bruising is something that should be reported.

Best to see someone. If it is caused by medication then they tend to be vey brown in colour and don’t hurt.

Hi Shanim

I also bruise really easily, the slightest knock causes bruises that last for ages. I’m on hydroxychloroquine as well as MTX

I think I am going to stop it as I am very sure it is causing a problem with my eyesight as well, I have a lot of trouble focusing in one eye in particular and am paranoid about my eyesight as I have already had both cataracts done at the age of 57, I am back to hospital in August so will address it with them then too

Thanks for reply

That’s weird I’ve had trouble focusing in one or on occasion both eyes! I thought it was the hydroxy but unfortunately it hasn’t got any better even after stopping that drug, it’s still very blurry! One optician said it was macular degeneration, another said floaters and yet another said nothing there😂 So who knows but it’s very annoying! Hope you get yours resolved though.

I had an eye test on Wednesday and the optician told me that I had macular degeneration in the eye that is going fuzzy, these drugs are so toxic you don’t know what they are doing to us

I’d wait to discuss before stopping it. Have you had an eye test before starting on it? You should have these done every year.

Thanks but She did say if there was any change at all to eyesight to stop, I wish I had gone ahead and got an eye test before

Yes. I too have noticed I bruise a lot more easily and I think it may be Hydroxychloroquine. I have a Rheumatology appointment next week so I am going to mention it then.

Been on Hydroxy for 15 years but not sure about bruising, itching was a big thing for me.
