Oh, but that sounds awful. It's obviously not suiting you at all. I'd be going back to the rheumy team and telling them what you've said here and refusing to take it any more. If it's any help I only managed three days on it before I said 'no more'. Please contact them today. Sending huge gentle hugs

Thank goodness for that. You shouldn't have to suffer like that. I do hope you are seen soon and a med prescribed that will help.

I was allergic to it, but it took a month for enough to accumulate in my system to produce hives…everywhere! It took almost a month for the hives to disappear after I stopped taking it!

It shows how we all react differently, trouble with me is tablets and me don't get on aspecially pain killers, and now hydroxychloroquine

What brand is it? There is a particular brand that does not suit anybody. I'll look it up as it is so long ago that I can't remember.

Further to my post just now, the brand is Quinoric (American name Planequil). It is not the hydroxychloroquine causing the side effects but the coating. I had similar stomach issues (mainly diarrhoea) and developed a stomach ulcer. The hospital had given me a different brand to take away but a repeat from the GP surgery was Quinoric. The consultant at the hospital said they never use Quinoric. I think their brand was Zentiva. It is probably the pharmacist who issued Quinoric as I doubt the GP specified the brand.

The brand is Quinoric ,its strange but when I coughed I could smell a funny smell a bit like sulfur, thank you so much for looking this up for me

At least you know you can try a different brand of Hydroxychloroquine and it might work, thus saving you having to go on to stronger drugs for the time being.

I was on it as well for about 6 months. The first 3 months i was absolutely fine and then once it built up in my body it was bottoming out my blood sugar levels. I’m not diabetic but i have always run on the lower side w my blood sugar and had issues when i was younger. But the highest my sugar would go is 68. Everyone reacts so differently i was disappointed it didnt work for me. I hope you find a new medication that's right for you!

Hi i was also put on hydroxychloroquine 2 months ago after my methotrexate was no longer enough. I have had probs with it. Stomach upsets, anxiety& sleep disturbances. I have come off it now the rheum clinic will have to find me something else. The anxiety was worse i cdnt cope with anything. I know everyone is different tho so good luck x

I started on Hydroxychloroquine in May when I stopped my Methotrexate. I was told it was a slow acting drug. To cut a long story short I was on one a day and I am pleased to say since around July/August I have had no pain whatsoever and no side effects either. My latest prescription is a different brand so fingers crossed I don’t have any reaction to the new brand.
