I took hydroxychloroquine for 11yrs. It took 3 months for my stomach to settle & then they were fine. I’ve had covid 4 times never very badly thank goodness but after the 2nd time I started to get double vision & feeling sick all the time dizzy & headaches. As my sister died early of a massive stroke I was scared. I didn’t think it was hydroxy but I decided to stop it just in case I wasn’t on any other meds. After a week or so all the symptoms went. My consultant fell out with me badly & said there’s no way that it was hydroxy & wouldn’t prescribe anything else. So I’m off all meds. Hydroxy certainly helped me & I’ve no idea if it was them that turned against me or sheer coincidence.🤷‍♀️

They really did work for me & even though I don’t take any meds now I still feel way better than I did 11yrs ago I put that to hydroxy. Give them longer.

I’ve been on Hydroxy since December, and had a few bloating issues to start with but I’m fine now, and the most pain free I’ve been for many years.

This bloating is quite severe makes me breathless ,I'm wondering if I should try something like buscopan

Have you tried ringing your rheumatology nurse?

I was the same; hydroxy seemed to trigger a sort of IBS with me, that I'd never had before. My GP prescribed some meds to help settle my tummy and things calmed down within a couple of months. I came off the tummy meds once everything calmed down and it's been fine since.

I had a Omeprazole and Mebeverine. I think the Mebeverine helped most, my GP described it as soothing the digestive process. Both of these had to be prescribed by my GP. Do check with your GP or pharmacist before taking anything, as some tummy meds can interact with RA meds.

Like everyone else I too had problems as I now have IBS which I didn’t have prior to taking the hydroxy. I’d ask if they can give you something to ease the symptoms as the pain relief is clearly working for you. Good luck, I hope things settle for you soon

I have just started on these for the first time, been on them about a week and a half and I am getting the same symptoms. At least they are not making me feel sick which the Methotrexate has done in the past.
