Hello has anyone known anyone or have had surgery themselves to replace MCP joints ? and how how successful and what kind of movement was achieved back ..?
I’ve been to see a top surgeon who is willing to perform this and both he and hand therapist believe I will have over all better function.
I’m just so nervous about it and want to find out as much information as I can as I really do want it done as my RH is pretty damaged and being a pianist, playing piano is now quite difficult. But obviously don’t want to make my hand less functional than it is now as I can least still do stuff and play piano to a degree ..any info would be gratefully received TTX

Hi Tess, I've had both hands done and they have been relatively successful. I should have had them done sooner before the tendon damage was too serious.
I have better movement and my fingers are better aligned. However I still get swelling and pain in these joints when I have a flare. I also had to have a revision of my right index finger as the replacement failed.
As OldTimer says, the key to better movement is the physio.
Thank you both for such positive replies. I’m up for doing loads of physio. They said they get you moving it only a few days after the op. It’s a scary prospect but I’m so sick of it being pretty useless for certain tasks. My main concern would be strength and dexterity but to be honest the dexterity is pretty non existent at the min however it is still quite strong. They also said I may not be able to make a full fist which I can at present but why would I need to make a fist .. 🤛. .. ! I’ll wait to see if anyone else replies. Thanks again though TTx
