Hello, I am new to this site. I am in-between treatments at the moment. I was on rituxumab infusion but my rheumatologist wants to start me on Baricitinib - a fairly new drug on the market. I believe it is a daily tablet. I have been on so many different treatments, all of which have been beneficial to start with, then end up not being effective. I am scared about starting this new treatment, and was wondering if anyone is on this medication and what their experience of it is.
New medication: Hello, I am new to this site. I am in... - NRAS
New medication
Hiya & welcome. I'm afraid I can't help re baricitinib (Olumiant) though it has been discussed here quite a bit. It's one of the newer Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors & yes it is a daily tablet. If you enter either the generic name or brand name in the Search box (top right corner on my iPad) you'll find past posts from those who are starting on it or have started it. I'm sure those who have will be along to share their experiences.
Anyhow, welcome again, I hope this is the one you do well on & find it helpful being here.
Hey, welcome to this warm and wonderful group. It's a great place to have a good chat with others who are experiencing, in one way or another, the ups and downs of living with RA. Ok, baricitinib. I have been on this drug since last September. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster re: which dosage was best for me, and getting an infection at one point, etc. Just a few weeks ago I had a really nightmarish flare in my feet. Everywhere else was fine, but my feet were under severe attack. Looking back, it was very probably my own fault, because I overdid stuff, but that's another story. The dose was altered and I have to say that since then, life has suddenly become SO much better and brighter. I can stride along now, just like I could before being diagnosed....but only in bite size pieces!! It is very tempting to go haring off over the fells on a huge hike, but that last flare really scared me, so I am being happily cautious with this wonderful feeling of being SO much more like my old self again. So for me, baricitinib has worked a treat. But it has taken some time to get to this point. There have been no horrible side effects, apart from the odd headache at the start, and I can only recommend this drug hugely. Happy days!! 🙂
Never posted before, I was diagnosed since 2011 lots of ups and downs pleural effusion, tb and a now damaged ankle but...after methotrexate, sulphasalazene, hydrocloxychorizine in varying doses I have now been on Baricitinib (& methotrexate) for a year and it’s been amazing I’m walking easier and just feel so much better in myself as well as no flare ups and far less tablets to take!
Hi, let's take this ride together, I've had RA for 22yrs and been on almost all meds without great success. I'm awaiting the delivery of my meds and hoping these are gonna be my holy grail to control my disease. Don't be afraid of taking new meds I'm 64yrs old and have tried many and still here to tell the tale 😁😁 Good luck!!! 🤗X
