My 19 year old son was just diagnosed with primary Addisons disease. The only symptoms he has are looking tanned and lost 10 pounds. His Am cortisol levels were very low. His Acth leves very high and very high antibodies. Otherwise he is feeling fine. (Possibly slightly fatigued, but nothing terrible )he is doing everything he needs to and wants. His potassium, sodium and sugar levels are fine. Endecronologist put him on 5 mg of prednisone. He doesn't feel any different on it. He's now on it for 3 weeks. He says I felt fine before and feel same now. ( he can exercise, run, and do all school work ) . His alderostone levels are fine although dr. Says it'll probably not be soon. I know that the blood work is not lying, but the whole thing is weird. Does anyone know if this disease can be reversed? Or can it possibly be helped not to progress further? We went for a second opinion and he wants him switched to 20 mg hydrocortisone in morning and 5 mg at noon. What should he do? Awaiting replies. Thanks

Although there are people on here with Addisons, in general it is secondary Addisons as a result of the drugs we have to take for our primary disease. I’m not sure how that relates to your son who has primary Addisons. Sorry I can't be of help.

I understand that you don’t want your child to have an illness like this! My daughter has something going on with her copper levels that no one can figure out and it’s more than worrisome. I can’t give you any answers about addisons but I do know two things—First, you can have something very wrong and not feel ill at all. Second, I’ve never met a doctor that wished an illness on someone, especially a young person. You have to find a doctor that you trust and then listen to what he or she says. Best wishes to you both!
