Is it a cold, flu, viral or bacterial infection?

Can anyone tell me how to determine if I have a cold, flu, viral or bacterial infection? I was around a guy who had an awful cough. He's treating it with an occasional cough drop and occasional shot of robatussin, and 2000 mg of vit c. It didn't put him to bed. He may also have some nasal congestion. 2 days later I came down deathly I'll with stopped up nose, a cough, and spitting up greenish phelgm. I ran a fever for about 2 days then it subsided. I have extreme morning soreness and after 2 days of it all took my scheduled mtx dose. I didn't know not to take it while sick. Now is day 4 with all above symptoms, soreness is extreme, still have nose and chest congestion, spitting up phelgm still, chest hurts to breathe. Since the start 4 days ago still taking antihistamine with guaffifenician every 12 hours and intermittant doses of Tylenol extra strength. I see no improvement and still feel like dog poop 😣

If you have a fever over 100, are coughing up green gunk, and have chest pain then you need to go to see a doctor! Let the doctor determine if it’s a viral or a bacterial infection.

It really depends on your rheumatology specialist as to whether you stop methotrexate. My old specialist says continue MXT but my current one says stop. I tend to stop as when I have a cold usually ends in a chest infection. I’ve have bronchietasis caused by MXT. It sounds like you need to see your gp

When I first started on Mtx my nurse give me a booklet of does and don’t. Also if I’m not mistaken if you read the information sheet that comes with it. Sure it says on that too. As they say if in doubt contact your rheum team or ring Gp or even your local chemists. Hope you feel better soon 🙂

Tynol so in America ? best to talk to your Rhumatologist as we are not medically qualified and it might be anything. Its a good idea to keep well hydrated and lemon and honey drinks help. Keep warm and get plenty of rest. I have a rotten cold at the moment to watching tv its boring but the head spins on moving chest is tight and bringing up yellow phelm. So many colds about this is down to my son. Grrr.
