Staring on JAK Inhibitor on Monday 29th April

Am worried about side effects, can anyone on the drug say if they are having problems such as nausia [sickness] and how they are coping with it.

If you search by drug names I think you will see people's experience with them is very different than with Dmards. Side effects minimal unless you are unlucky enough to get infections. Tend to work quickly and leave the system quickly if you need to stop them. Good luck!

There is some information on JAK inhibitors on the NRAS website and if you put the name of the drug into the search box you will find previous posts about it.

My sister is on one and she doesn't have any nausea problems, but people do vary!

Hi ,I went on Tofacitinib nearly 3 months ago . Touch wood it’s been the first drug in 4 years that seems to be working without side effects. I know we all react differently to the meds ,so Good luck!

I’m on a jak inhibitor (Baricitinib) no side effects whatsoever. No nausea at all. Just because it says it’s a reasonably common side effect doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get it.

That sounded a bit negative but my experience is a good one (thank goodness). I do take it about an hour before bed though with plenty of water so if there was any nasties with regards to side effects I sleep through them. I used to take it earlier but I have other meds I have to take during the day so I don’t want to take them all at once. I have found that a probiotic daily either live yogurt or tablet form helps me so much with any gut issues which used to be a real problem but not anymore. So go for it if it doesn’t suit you if it’s in tablet form it will be out of your system very quickly and you should be monitored closely by the rheumy team.

I’m with you in spirit it’s not a five minute fix but hopefully you’ll start to notice an improvement after a few days. I also know how desperate you feel needing help with your RA I was more than on my knees before I started this treatment. I hope it goes really well for you and you get some relief soon. Keep us posted 😃
