Mixed arthritic diagnosis

Hi everyone. My first post. I was hoping someone might be able to offer advice. I have suffered with a swollen knee and not being able to walk on it due to the pain. My doc decided it was arthritis and sent me for an x-ray. He said it was fine. Yet 3 years before I had fallen on my knees hard and was told my cartilage was very thin and i had arthritis. I know it is incurable. So can they have made a mistake somewhere? The knee clicks and sticks it is driving me up the wall. Thanks.

Hi, I had some osteo in my knees way before I developed RA. Recently started the same with both knees swollen to the point that a holiday we had booked we very nearly cancelled as knew I couldn’t get up the steps to the plane, but after speaking to a fellow RA friend I learnt I could get help via ambi lift to board the plane. I really had to put my pride in my pocket to do this lol.... dont think it’s the bone with mine it’s more the fluid back & front that causes them to stick... perhaps it’s worth you going privately for a second opinion?

I’d go back to your GP and discuss both results with them. Of course mistakes can be made but only your GP can explain fully both results to you. Let us know how you get on.

Has your GP mentioned rheumatoid arthritis to you, or checked your bloods for rheumatoid or inflammitory markers?

Or is it osteoarthritis the GP is suggesting?

The treatments are very different so it is important to secure a diagnosis. If your GP suspects rheumatoid arthritis you need the specialist care of a rheumatologist.

Skip your GP and ask to see an orthopedic specialist. I have RA as well as an injured right knee that developed sever osteoarthritis. The OS operated to clean up the ragged tissue in my knee, then sent me for physical therapy, and now gives me a cortisone injection in that knee about once every four months. It’s made a tremendous difference in my mobility. 😊

I too am fairly new to arthritis.

One advise, DO YOUR EXERCISE, it helps to keep muscles strong.

If you don't know what exercise to do search the web. It's great.

And anything that you want to know, it's there for you.

Also, if overweight, get the weight off, and start eating healthier.

I am struggling with weight and trying to eat heathy and its not

easy.

If you are having problems with constipation from pills, drink hot water three time a day and eat prunes (I eat three) a day. I ear the cooking ones. Drink lots of water also.

Not what you're looking for?
