Newbie needs Info

Hi all , this is new to me I'm taking mtx 20mg once a week with 15 mg prednisolone daily and 5mg folic once a week ,my first went ok and today I just to my second MTX as well as prednisolone etc except I got a bladder infection thru week and doc gave me some antibiotics which I also took today , feeling a bit spacey and tired .is that normal or ok , I'm just alittle wary of the walk in medical centers advice atm as I dont see my specialist for another 6 weeks , can I also take other pain killers with this treatment to help me sleep.

Hi, first of all If I’m on antibiotics I have to miss my Methotrexate whilst I’m taking them. I suggest you get in touch with your Rheumatology team nurse and ask her advice.If you can’t get in touch with them. I do suggest you go to your walk-in clinic as it’s the weekend.

Best place to get quick advice on this would be the pharmacist. They will know what you are taking and what you could add to that safely.

I too am always advised to stop my Mtx while on antibiotics. I think the antibiotics make the Mtx stronger which can be hard on your liver. So don't panic but good to know for next time.

If you can get your meds from the same pharmacy most of the time, you can develop a relationship with them so they know you and your meds / medical condition. Then they will advise when new meds or certain supplements don't mix well with your meds.
