My feet started aching around the undersides of my heal, felt like the skin was becoming soggy tissue then full blown swelling and scared to put my feet on the floor for over 6 months, at best I can be on them 20 mins then the rest of the day it’s too painful, that big bony bit that hits the floor that’s the area that’s caused me the most pain after ten mins i can feel it up the inside of my legs going into my calf’s is the most painful area of my body. I’m only asking as my gp there’s a notice and it’s practiced one question only. Ten mins at best I’m in the room. It wasn’t like that before. I’m think because so many properties have been built in the area more people to service. But since being on this site many people have learned not only there own personal physical understanding and there way to wellness as best as possible, could shed a bit of light on mine. The rest of my body I get is Ra but despite the swelling now calmed down because of steroids is it still hurting???

Hi New50

Have you been to a Podiatrist recently? Sounds like you might need that or urgent call to GP who could give you a call back appointment to talk but it sounds as if you need it looked at.

I use coconut oil on my feet to keep bacteria down and help prevent infection. Good moisturiser.

Apple cider vinegar (with the mother) is good for killing and preventing fungal infections in skin and nails too.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thank you, I guess I don’t know who to speak to about it, but yes I will see if I can get an appointment, I used coconut oil and I corporate it into my diet but it still hurts. It’s been so long and still don’t understand. And thank you for getting in touch. It’s just trying to remember stuff to do. I just sit like a lemon most days not knowing what to think or do aside from what to eat. It’s that painful it’s stopping me doing anything xxx

Could it be plantar fasciitis? Here's info about it, but I think you need to ask your GP or rheumy to refer you to a podiatrist.

One question..

"I have RA and it is affecting my feet badly, so can you refer me to a podiatrist please"

If they start to quibble it is in the NICE guidelines that RA patients should get this when necessary.

Thank you, the steroids are helping the rest of my body but just being able to be on my feet for more than 15 to 20 mins a day without being in pain. I get so pissed off because it stops me doing most things. I’ve always been really active and I’m not overweight but getting bigger due to little activity, it’s like I have to close my mind down too because I’d go mental. If I had the opportunity to go back to work it would be great. Being on the basic benefits isn’t living the level of in activity given I’m only 50 is horrible, I thought fatigue was just feeling tired, fatigue is you do hardly anything and feel shattered. I don’t want that to be my world, what walking up n down the stairs n making dinner should tire me out. No no no I need some answers. Don’t care if I die young just don’t wanna die of Boredom and frustration. I actually feel bad when I call my docs saying I don’t feel good they ask why??? If I knew that I wouldn’t call

I checked out the info you’ve sent and I will try it. That looks great. It’s not plantar fasciitis as I’ve been told but thank you that’s great you answered xxx

Hi New50, it is possible to be taking steroids and your feet not improve, because it is virtually impossible to “rest” your feet. I’m kind of in the same boat as you. Very active (golfer), and my major “woes” relate to my feet. Plantar fasciitis is notoriously difficult to heal and pain where your heel hits the ground is a classic symptom. Second the suggestion for Podiatrist visit. Plus the article referenced above has some good stretches etc. Also, freezing some bottled water and then putting it on the floor and rolling the sole of your foot on it, helps some folk.

It is very difficult to be stuck in the “I’m getting nowhere” phase of this disease. I completely understand how you feel. It’s hard to stay motivated and positive when basically your body reminds you every day how limited you are, and that progress is painfully slow. Personally, I’m into counselling - having an unrelated person to talk to can be very beneficial. A psychologist/counsellor is on your side, non judgemental and hopefully can inspire the inner strength needed to keep going - at least mine does, and I’ve been in some very dark places since I was diagnosed. I know it may be regarded as a bit of a “cure all”, but I meditate. I have meditation music to help me sleep, I have meditation to help me focus and to relax as well. Even if it’s 5 mins a day, it can help to quiet your mind and shut the negativity off for a bit. Hope this helps, cheers Deb :)

I had plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago. I have never known anything so painful, it was like when my foot touched the floor a shooting pain went straight to my brain. Agony doesn’t even touch it.

I did the iced bottle rolling, my physio recommended alternate hot and cold - in fact it wasn’t long before we went on holiday and I did everything I could f8nd recommended by Dr Google and after she heard what I was doing she suggested I add in a bit of rest.

In the end after trying all sorts of things like special insoles I bought myself a pair of ASICS trainers - they are very padded and comfortable and really supportive and I think that helped as much as anything.

I’ve now got arthritis in my feet, started out like tendinitis but I’m coming tomorrow the conclusion it’s actually arthritis. The ASICS help with that too they seem to lace up in a good place for me.

Recommend seeing a podiatrist too, I love going to see my podiatrist, she works her magic on my feet and she is so funny she is good for the soul too.
