Hi! I've had an underactive thyroid for years before I developed RA. It's just another pill to add to the box and another blood test to regularly take to to keep hormone levels in check. Mine are usually under control with the pills. If I don't take them, I eventually start being very grumpy, turn into a crybaby, and start to gain weight more easily. What else could I expect from hormones! Obviously cases can be very different but my personal experience has been that my thyroid is the least of my worries, I rarely even think about it.

Hi, I have no thyroid after having a thyroid storm and am on levothyroxine. No problems really, just another pill, more blood tests but done at he same time as others so no extra agro. Once you have found the right dose which can take a little time you should fell loads better! Good luck

Again to add I have Hasimoto's the autoimmune form of under active thyroid. I was dx 9 years before RD and take Thyroxine am tested yearly and to be honest it's kept fairly stable so don't think about it. We tend to get more than one problem with autoimmune decease's. All the best. X

I can't ' like ' your post Jen because you're obviously having a torrid time of things. I do hope an effective treatment can be found for you very soon. Hugs

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (over active thyroid) in 2006 ten years after my RA diagnosis. It was horrific at first as I lost so much weight, I went to under six stones. Took a while to get on track but my thyroid is normal now for many years on a small dose of Carbimazole. The consultant thinks it would stay normal if we stopped it but I am unsure. Hope yours is soon steady whichever way it is .. under or over.
