I found this for you, more common side effects that can occur with sulfasalazine include:

decreased appetite

headache

nausea

vomiting

stomach upset and pain

rash

itching

decreased sperm count (only while taking the medication)

dizziness

I have something called fire mouth, that hurts burns when I drink anything fizzy, also whisky burns like hell, I do take sulphazine max dose for a few years but my sore mouth is about 3 year, effects my taste badly. I hope this helps in some way.

A classic symptom of having active RA is that you feel like you have the flu. And mouth ulcers have many causes but are particularly associated with Methotrexate not sulphasalazine.

As for painkillers, for the flu type symptoms then things like paracetamol work ok. For the mouth ulcers rinse your mouth regularly with salty water.
