I'm struggling with quinoric. It tastes revolting I've tried taking it first in the middle with water and juice and it still stinks! It's making me gag!

Any suggestions kind folks? ((hugs)) M x

??? That's the brand I take and have never had a problem with it as long as I don't let it sit in my mouth or touch my tongue when it's v bitter.

lol I'll need to rethink my whole routine! I pop in the pills and take a drink to wash them down. How do you get em in without touching your tongue- I feel so silly! Lol ((hugs)) M x

Pop pill between teeth, pick up glass, and then drink as I let go pill so immediately in water. Trick with quinoric is to be quick and not let it dissolve at all.

Hi Marie, I was taking this drug every morning for almost 2 years. I did notice the horrid taste but had to take it regardless. Big gulp of water to swallow I'm afraid then a menthol sweetie after to suck on I found solved the taste problem. Off the drug now as changed meds.

I hold the pill between my front teeth and let it wash down with a gulp of water, tip head back as you swallow... no taste. Practice with something like a tic tac mint?

Eat fudge or chocolate very quickly too ? Honestly this is dissapointing as I thought it would taste like tonic as isn't it derived from quinnine ? I have a sweet tooth so to learn its bitter is bad news. Is it a liquid or pill ?. I find chocolate solves most things but a friend swears by cheese. Could be worth a try. I hope you find something that works as its a really bitter pill to swallow (could'nt resist the pun, if its a pill) . Let us know if you do find something as its a useful bit of info for the future. Good luck and thanks for the heads up about the taste.

Hi Marie, I'm also on Hydroxychloroquine. However my latest batch is film coated and therefore it hasn't got that awful bitter taste. So much easier to take. They are a yellowish colour.

Yes my last prescription came as the coated one - yellow- and that has sorted out the awful taste as they start to dissolve before you can get them down the thrapple - I put my next script in tomorrow and will be mentioning to the pharmacist to make sure I get those again - for a few pennies ...

Hi Marie,

I take it with a banana. I bite a piece of banana and chew it a bit, when it is ready to swallow I put the pill in my mouth and swallow both together. Works a treat as I also struggle with swallowing dry things and the banana mosturises it.

I try to swallow 4 of my 8 different medications at once in morning then the next 4.it's always the hydroxychlorine that doesn't go with the rest down my throat and it's yuk ! I will ask for sugar coated ones next time and hope that helps Izzyowl

I've been taking hydroxy for 2 years and can't say I've ever had the misfortune of tasting one. I just take them in the normal manner with a glass of water as I do with all of my meds.

Big gulp of water in mouth first then shove Hydroxy in between pursed lips and then swallow making sure it doesn't' touch my tongue.

It has an utterly disgusting taste. I feel your pain Marie.

It's horrible isn't it? My pharmacist tries to give me an alternative when they have it but the repeat I picked up this week is Quinoric again. The only thing I found that works is to take it with a spoonful of yogurt as it helps coat the pills and get them down with minimal vile taste. I tend to have a dry mouth so I wonder if that's why I have a problem and others don't. Apparently some patient actually ask for this brand!

Ask GP to change to hydroxychloroquine sulphate film coated tablets which are made by Blackrock pharmaceuticals ltd. I don’t have any problems with these at all but I didn’t like Quinoric either. Xx
