Methotrexate advice

Now 6 weeks in to trialling MTX and still appear to be getting worse with extra muscle and joint pain. Should I be starting get to see small improvements by now? Getting close to giving get up because I was actually in less pain before I stacted. Any advice anyone?

I was told takes up to 3 months to be effective but you could try specialist nurse? I ve just come off after a year & it definitely helped joint pain but couldn’t stomach side effects. I used to notice day after injection joints hurt more weirdly, sorry not much help x

I've got an appointment with nurse in a couple of weeks so will mention it then.

Speak to your Rheumy nurse...she may down your dose.

If you are feeling much worse pain wise, but not having other different side effects it just might not suit you.

Mtx can take 3/6 months to kick in, but I don't think having more pain is one of the side effects usually reported.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks, yes will see what she says although interestingly I've noticed on the patient information leaflet that muscle and joint pain is down as a side effect

I must admit I rarely read PIL's until I have been on any new meds for quite a while, as I can imagine myself into having everything on the list!!!!

But if the Mtx PIL does list muscle & joint pain as a side effect maybe your Rheumy nurse will adjust the dose & say it should wear off soon& if you aren't in unbearable pain suggest you try another few weeks to see if you settle down?

I was on Mtx for 7 years very successfully, & had hoped I had found my magic bullet forever, however I eventually got Cns symptoms & my rheumatologist took me off it.

Wish you well in getting sorted....this disease can be a magical mystery tour we all wish we weren't on!

Yes hadn't read the leaflet for that very reason but curiosity got the better of me! It took me long enough to agree to try MTX so fingers crossed it will eventually work it's magic

I am sorry to hear that MTX doesn't give you the relieve you seek just yet, but please remember that if you stop taking medication, RA will continue to cause serious damage to your body. I hope MTX will eventually help. All the best.
