RA & Diabetes?

I’m high risk for Diabetes as I had gestational diabetes both times I was pregnant- I controlled it the entire time through diet which was a hard task for this carb lover. Since my preggo days, I used to Run regularly as a way to help my bloods anyway, then RA struck and I can’t run anymore, I got put on Prednisolone 8 weeks ago & I got told it raised blood sugar levels.

I’m beginning to see I’m fighting a loosing battle here, I just wandered if there’s others who have both conditions & if DMARDS specifically MTX has issues with the treatment of the other condition?

Many Thanks

🙏🏿

Try to get weaned off the Prednisolone.....Luckily it really didn't agree with me after just a few days. .....and when I read on here how may people have it prescribed for so long I am really grateful I reacted to it so quickly.

Ask your rheumatologist to prescribe some other anti inflammatory where an injection lasts over a few months.

Hi there,

I have both type 1 diabetes (since childhood), and RA diagnosed 12 months ago. Been on mtx injection (20) weekly and placquenil twice daily. I haven't noticed any impact of either on blood sugar I did ask my rheumy once if the ra meds could be blamed for fluctuations I was experiencing at the time. He said it shouldn't, and indeed I did resolve the issue otherwise.

Good luck with this, it is probably just the usual preventative interventions like being mindful of carb intake and trying to get any bit of exercise even if not running! Not always easy, I know!

Thank you! It’s useful to know, I’ve tried to find resources that deal with both with no luck! So your reply is very reassuring!
