Has anyone here gotten kidney disease from Enbrel?
Kidney Disease: Has anyone here gotten kidney disease... - NRAS
Kidney Disease
Well having RA increases your risk of kidney disease, so not sure how much research has been done on whether the risk is higher if you are also on Enbrel.
I have cronic kidney disease but it was from anti inflammatory arcoxia. I was on Enbrel and found it very good
Well, as one example that was reported in PubMed that RD patients with chronic kidney failure on predialysis were retrospectively evaluated for the safety & efficacy of etanercept. They were given 25mg once or twice a week. Each improved so it was considered that etanercept may be a safe & effective treatment for those with chronic kidney failure. The thing is though anti-TNF's are relatively new so longer term side effects, including regarding the kidneys, aren't well reported.
You must as always be aware of anything unusual though & report any concerns to your team as we all respond differently, your med history is important, not necessarily the meds you take now but any previous ones that could cause renal issues. NSAIDs are a typical example, DMARDs too, MTX is known to cause kidneys probs in some for example. So if you feel you have a problem with your kidneys do make your Rheumy or Rheumy Nurse aware.
This may help explain how kidney issues aren't limited to the meds we take, RD itself can put us at risk of kidney disease arthritis.org/living-with-a...
