I was pushing for ill health retirement but looking at the options I have decided to take the normal pension. This will take about 4 months and ill health may take months as they need to look at all options like relocating etc. I just want to go now.
This way I can take a part time work once I feel well enough. My brother has a tea room and has said I can work there.

If you take medical retirement there's nothing to stop you working again for another employer...
But I understand the frustration and desire to stop, as that's exactly what I did. Medical retirement would probabaly have taken another year to go through all the stages, so like you I made the decision that the extra money wasn't worth it.
Don't blame you Matilda: still waiting to hear on mine. I find all these things so stressful on top of RD like pip, medical assessments etc, just want to be free of it all really and concentrate on enjoying what i can! Good luck, hope they sort it soon for you x
Just want to get out. Told it can take a long time before a decision can be made and may not get it. So going the usual way it should take 4 months. So if I start now will be out by September.
Medical retirement wasn’t really an option in my job. I just decided one day that I really couldn’t stand the stress, and the flares that this was causing. I haven’t lost much on my works pension, but the annoying thing is that I can’t get my state pension until I’m 66!
