Dear all, I am 45 years old. 15 years ago my right thumb got stuck in a car door when it was closing. Now it pains when the thumb acvidently touches or hits somewhere. Even a small touch it pains so much. It's exactly above the joint and below the nail base. Had pain killers applied various types of cream but nothing worked.
Does any of you have or had a similar experience? What did you do please? Thanking you for your advise in advance.

I trapped my right index finger in a car door several years ago, I had stitches in the finger, a year later the finger was still painful. I felt silly going to see GP with a sore finger, but it was x rayed & I was diagnosed with RA, which was lucky for me in some respect, as, as getting an early diagnosis meant I was able to be treated before things got too bad!! Hoping yours is something less sinister!?!?
Hiya Shionz. Previous injuries, even those as far back as yours, can result in osteoarthritis of that joint. Definitely something to mention to your GP next time, difficult to guess just what could be done about such an old injury if it was by chance broken though, it will certainly have healed that's for sure. Your GP will determine that though & if it needs attention. If it is OA though it could be that an NSAID such as naproxen could help ease the pain & any underlying inflammation which is likely to be causing the pain. Whether it's related to the many times I shut my fingers in car doors or not I don't know but I have OA in my hands & I find both my prescribed NSAID plus applying Pernaton gel helps, it's available from chemists & online. You could also try applying heat or cold, try both & whichever you find eases the pain best then apply regularly.
