Feeling sick AFTER folic acid

So I took my first half dose (7.5mg) Methotrexate on Tuesday night, went to to bed, felt a bit queasy, took a VERY long sleep , woke up on Wednesday yucky but OK.

Thursday was normal

Today (Friday) I took 5mg Folic Acid and now feel very sick, haven’t been sick but feel it.

Is it in my head?! Thought the Folic Acid HELPED the side effects?

I understand they can make you feel bloated, which can make you feel sick i guess. So difficult to know as it all seems to vary from day to day. Stick with it and see how it goes.

I started to think same but think it might be Mtx now as started to get waves of nausea later in week on it? Before it was3 days then ok. Ish. Difficult knowing what's causing what with this, that's half the trouble. You start off thinking the drugs ll relieve symptoms not add loads more.

Yeah it is coming in waves, perhaps it is just coincidence... it’s like being pregnant again, nausea, folic acid, no alcohol, waiting 12weeks to see if all is well!

Yep just like morning sickness, hope it improves for you soon 😀

Hi! I don't know if it helps you but whenever I take the Folic Acid and the mtx I feel sick on my stomach for almost a whole day. I take Folic Acid (5mg) on Fridays and mtx (10 mg) on Saturdays both with breakfast. On Sundays, my stomach is usually back to normal.

What sometimes helps me is having some toasts and/or banana for breakfast and avoiding yogurt, citric and any other acid food in the morning. It's not perfect but it makes it much easier to cope with it.

Have you tried taking the FA the day after the Mtx?

I found taking the Mtx after dinner worked better than on an empty stomach in the Morning....it really seemed true for me that I slept through any nausea I might have had.

I stayed on Mtx very successfully for 7 years....now on a biologic.

Take the folic at night before bed, then any nausea isn't made worse cos you're on your feet/ moving around. I always take mine around 8.30 when I take my last meds. Any nausea is then while I'm lying down , drifting off . I find always best to take meds that cause nausea last thing , I take my methotrexate around 7.30 , same reason, i can cope with feeling bit spaced nest day , I just take it a bit easier. X

Err........could it be morning sickness?

Like Phillylou I take my methotrexate after my evening meal, then it isn't landing on an empty stomach and I can (hopefully) sleep through any nausea - although I still feel a bit queasy the next day. Methotrexate on Wednesday, FA on Friday evening. Yum. x
