Abatacept
Love my Abatacept - changed my life (together with my TKR). I was really bad at that stage and it took nearly 9 months to work (with addition of hydroxy at 6 months). I do run with regular low WBC and Neut levels but this has not caused me any issues - at the time this was my only option so I was allowed to carry on with low levels. Farm
Hi Vonnie10,
I’ve now been on abatacept for around 4 months and I have to say i have noticed a marked improvement. Not all plain sailing but generally movement and stiffness is a lot better.
I currently inject and I do feel sick and generally unwell for about 24 hours after I’ve had it. I am awaiting to hear whether or not I can move to intravenous administration monthly to get back some days where I’m not sick!!
I have been poorly this winter with a couple of infections but no more than when I was on humira.
As the biologics all work in different ways it could work for you so I wish you lots of luck.
Hi Vonnie, I have been on Abatacept for just over a year now. Weekly pen sub cut injections to start with. Worked within weeks and no side effects. After about 4 months my migraines returned with a vengeance. I stopped Abatacept for a few months and now only inject every two or three weeks as at my last consultation I was deemed to be doing well on it. Also, as I am a petite lady, it was thouught that the standard dose in the pen may have been too high a concentration for me. No migraines now but I do get a couple of spots appearing on my face a day or two after self inject.
It was a wonder drug for me, I got my life back!
Good luck
I,ve been on abatacept for three and a half years and have had no major flare-ups,i,m still really stiff in the mornings which lasts until dinnertime but thankfully feel much better since using it.I hope it works for you too but give it time.
I've had 4 weekly Abatacept injections and so far I have noticed no change in my disease activity. I have had no side effects so far which is a welcome change for me.
I have been told it can take up to 16 weeks so it's early days so far..
Good luck when you start it.
Hi
I have been on monthly Abatacept infusions for a couple of years now. At last appt. my rheumatologist said that I am now in clinically induced remission. Only side effect I get is a headache the following day. I know we all react differently to these drugs but I am very happy with Abatacept.
