Hoping Mtx starts working soon (wishful thinking I know as I only took week two on Tuesday night haha). Can’t decide if the steroid injection is starting to wear off or if I’m in a flare and the steroid is just toning it down a bit. This disease is hard work as half the time I don’t know what’s bloody going on 😩 sorry for the rant!!
Hope it works soon!!: Hoping Mtx starts working soon... - NRAS
Hope it works soon!!
I’ve only been on Mtx for 1.5 weeks and the rheumy said it can take up to 12 weeks and to keep taking it
General steroids (the ones usually given in your bottom) are queer things because they work well for some but not so well for others, equally they last longer for some than others. As you've had some relief they obviously work for you but it's gauging the dose with length of time it's effective. What I'd be tempted to do Helen is see how things pan out next week & if you feel it's wearing/worn off contact your Rheumy nurse, ask her advice, you should have been given a helpline number. With you having only just started MTX you need the bridge of a steroid to keep things controlled until MTX can take over.
Try & have a lazy weekend, don't over exert yourself... if that's possible with two youngsters! x
Yeah thanks Hun il see how I go. I’ve had a very lazy day today because I work in retail and am working all day tomorrow 😩 but will have another lazy day on Sunday. Might just be a bad couple days. Don’t get me wrong it’s nothing like it was before the steroid but I’ve noticed it so will keep an eye on it definitely. Thanks Hun xx
Hope you get some relief soon.
I reckon none of us need apologise for a bit of a rant... if not here, where LOL 🙂😀
Thanks Hun. I’m a bit too hopeful for anything yet being I’ve only been taking it for 1.5 weeks 😂
I find the not knowing -" is it a flare or did I overdo the gardening?" ; "is it osteo and not rheumatoid?"; "I feel good today - perhaps I've grown out of it?"; "are my extreme fatigue days really just laziness?"; very confusing. Especially as everyone seems to have a different experience. Ranting on a bad day is good, as is singing on a good one.
But hold on in there, perhaps ask for a further steroid boost to get you through the next few weeks and wait for the M/X to (hopefully) do its magic.
Steroids in the bottom work for me within the hour. However they don't last more than 3 weeks for me. Steroids into joints work better when I've needed them. Widespread relief for 5-7 months.
Hang in there Hels. xxx
Rant as much as you want, that's what we are here for.
I contacted NRAS last week as my GP was next to useless. Just take 8 30/500 co-codermol until you see rheumy! What! I will be a zombie. I am on 15mg of mtx and 200hydroxy... not working. So biologics in the frame....hmm a bit scared and will be travelling to south Africa middle of Feb so any side effects I will be alone in a strange country. I had a steroid injection in my shoulder last week as I have a torn rotor cuff... relief from aches for a while but today presenting themselves again. I did feel more like me for a while. Back to hot water bottles and painkiller s I guess...I'm supposedly sero neg, bloods negative....so how do they know. Ladyjan
Been on methatrexate, plaqunil, prednisone, for 1 year. It took several mos. to see a difference. In fact, fatigue was huge! Gradually had relief, but had to add more prednisone. Dr. Then started infusions, after two different kinds, I am now on Actemera infusion along with the above oral meds! Prednisone is down to 10 mgs a day. Hang in there as it takes a few try's on all these meds to get it right!
I hope MTX will work for you. It did for me. Within a week or so after I had started Mtx, the pain and stiffness went away. As such, I hope you will find that peace too. I told myself that it is my Rheumy's job to take care of me (figuratively speaking actually, because by equipping myself with knowledge about RA, I don't feel so helpless) and it is my job, to live.
