Was it a mini-stroke or what?

Hi all

My mother in law has RA very bad, only on parcetamol she's 85yo

She has raging dementia also and frequent UTI's

Last week when I visited she appeared to have a mini-stroke. First on record at least on record in mine and my HB's opinion.

She walks slowly anyway, but suddenly lost all control of her body, all motor skills and speech. We managed to catch her before she fell. She began to drool from her mouth and nose, and was trying to speak but no words came out. Only slurred garbled sounds. She became stiff and was locked like this for 10 minutes. It took 3 of us to hold her up even though she's tiny, as she became a dead weight.

After the 10 minutes, we got her to sit and she returned back to how she was before it happened. No lasting signs or damage.

Looking this up I came upon TIA/Mini-stroke symptoms, which seem to fit. But the ambulance we called which arrived an hour after made no mention of it. She was ok when they came so off they went. Her GP wouldn't come out to see her and after hearing a vague account given by my 88yo father in law said it's not a mini-stroke. Need to call him to ask what doc reckons it was, but probably didn't get any answer. I'm convinced its that. I mean what else could it be? Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

As you'll be aware, we cannot give medical advice but my

Mother, before she passed, had a good few years of TIAs and strikes. She also fitted although did not have epilepsy. What you describe also fits with my experience of her fitting ?

My only advice to you would to take your mum to see gp and describe then, her experience and your concerns .

Wishing you the best

Marie

It sounds like a seizure to me!

How scary for you. I don't know what to say, but I can send you a big hug.

Aw thanks, Suzann,

It was pretty shocking and scary. It's seared into my brain now, keep waking up thinking of it. Never seen anyone have such a serious incident in front of me. We are watching her, need to try and stop it happening again.
