A few years ago I was prescribed Plaquenil (manufactured by Sanofi) , when these were no longer produced I was prescribe Quinoric, but found that I could not tolerate these! Since then I have been taking the Hydroxychloroquine sulfate manufactured by Zentiva, apparently an off-shoot of Sanofi, & have had no problems. However my pharmacist has today informed me that there is a manufacturing issue with this product until the end of September. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues & is able to recommend an alternative.
Hydroxychloroquinine sulfate: A few years ago I was... - NRAS
Hydroxychloroquinine sulfate
The only other manufacturer I think does HCQ sulphate is Blackrock Pharmaceuticals, I say think because I'm not sure if it's still available but no harm asking your Pharmacist. He'll be able to access Blackrock Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate 200mg direct to pharmacy from Alliance Healthcare by quoting ‘PIP number’ (product code) 116-9523.
I can still get plaquenil in Australia. Interesting you have been told they no longer make it. Sorry you are having such issues obtaining the correct medication
I'm about to request my repeat prescription for Zentiva so will let you know how it goes. I can't tolerate quinoric either so fingers crossed . . . .
Will be interesting to see how you get on.
I have enquired as to whether my chemist can obtain the Blackrock Pharmaceuticals version as recommended by nomoreheels above but they have advised me that this is not possible & are dispensing another brand, not quinoric though. As you say, fingers crossed. Hopefully the manufacturing issue will be resolved soon.
Have you had any luck getting Zentiva? I've had non for 8 day's now, simply can't get it anywhere yet. Gave another make a try and was ill so I'm getting desperate now, I've tried all the chemists and my rheumatology clinic and still no joy!!
Yes, thankfully I have. I did have to survive 2 weeks without any but my local Boots were able to get supplies about a week ago. From experience I know how bad other brands can make you feel, so I can sympathise. Hopefully you will be able to get a supply very soon now.
