Swelling

Sorry hoping someone can reassure me that I'm not seeing things. Can anyone see the raised area and does it look swollen. It feels squiggy. It's hurting like mad.

Thanks

It looks swollen above your MPC joints, also slightly bruised between the first & second. Are you sure you've not banged your hand as it doesn't look like RD inflammation to me.

I have had issues for ages with both hands. Rheumatologist discharged me. I'm at a loss what to do. Dr gave me naproxen and doesn't help.

I'd see your GP again, explain naproxen isn't helping, he may prescribe a different NSAID. My experience (of 5 or so NSAIDs before & since RD & OA diagnoses) is naproxen didn't work. Others have worked for so long then stopped working but there are many he can choose from to see if one is effective.

Have you been referred to Occupational Therapy? They can be very helpful with hand issues.

Further to helix's answer, I have OA & when my affected joints, particularly my finger joints, hurt like billy-o I apply Pernaton gel. It's main constituents are green-lipped mussel extract & glycosaminoglycans (naturally occurring glucosamine). It eases the pain immediately & being non medicinal it's not contraindicated unlike ibuprofen gel & you can apply it as often as needed. Might we worth trying the smaller tube first, see if works but everyone I've recommended it to praise it.

I get same problems with both hands, I've had numerous steroid injections in swollen areas which help for a few weeks but swelling always comes back especially if I overdo things

Thanks I'm a bit wary of steroids. The thing is I haven't over done anything. I've been lazy all week. X.

Yes there's a bit of swelling on 1st/2nd MCP joints. I think you have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis? Which can cause swelling when active and hurts like b€%^*! Or could be the tendon sheath that is inflamed. Go and pester your GP.

I didn't realise that it has active times. I thought it was constant. I'm going to go to the Doctors, I can't even spread toast at the moment. Thank you x

I'm just going on my sister's hands as she has hand osteoarthritis...and she says it throbs very painfully from time to time, and then just hurts the rest.
