Allanah.... you will be asleep & when you wake up your foot will be numb & full of anaesthetic......so it won't hurt for a few days & by then you will be so glad you had it done ...when itbdies you'll battle through it!
Good on you Derek...has your physio mentioned icing your knee? I haven't had , but I ice my healing arm for 20 minutes, the wait about half an hour & wrap my hot pad round the arm.I don't know if it's RA pain or just the bone healing ...whatever...it does ease the pain,
But don't do it until you get the OK from your Physio!
Hey Derek I'm having my total knee replaced on fed 22. Your posts have been helping me to get a idea of what is coming my way. I do have a question I know it's been tough with the recovery but does your knee feel more better than before the surgery? And does it feel weird to walk? My knee is so painful and I can barely walk at the moment. I'm so tired of the pain.
Stop trying to push yourself! I have had both knees done. Rehab is a slow, slow process. My surgeon told me It would take a year to really recover and stop thinking about how I was moving. I didn't believe him - but he turned out to be right. And this was before the dreaded pmr struck and I was fit and healthy
Keep going! You're doing brilliantly . It's absolutely to be expected that your knee will swell after physio. I reiterate- rest, keep in top of pain Contril as needed, physio and ice- rest, pain control, physio, ice- you get the idea. Soon everything will kick in.
Hello Derek, well you're lucky then. During my darkest times I used to take one step forward and three steps back. I got there in the end though, but I know exactly how you feel. Have you talked to the physio or the doctors about this. Can't give you advice. I just hope that you'll get off this rollercoaster very soon.
Snap! I'm in the same boat. I had 2nd lot of Physio last week and bam💥my knee swelled up, other knee that needs a replacement too is agony. I have had 3 nights with no sleep due to pain/burning in both knees and found exercising to painful even when drugged up to the eyeballs.
I finally got my bend to 95.4 last week (before my session) I won't have that this week. As soon as I stand still for a few minutes, my knees go stiff and the same when sitting. I'm off to Physio today at 2, so not looking forward to it one bit. So Derek, I'm in sympathy with you. Keep smiling. Gentle hugs 🤗. X
Ps All that said, can't wait to get the other one done.
Hi sorry if I missed your first note. Have you had knee replacements? Sounds to me like you're experiencing the right symptoms for someone who is working hard after knee surgery.
I had a tkr (3 years ago)in February 2nd one in May you sound to be going through normal emotions after such surgery. Keep doing what you're doing force yourself to walk and do the exercises honestly it will pay off. One of the best replacements I've had (I've had many!) but if you don't work really hard you won't get the benefits. I'm walking 3 miles every morning now and my legs which had lost all the muscle tone are getting stronger and stronger.
