Needing a holiday...

Hi

I am a newbie, just had 2 injections of benapali for RA.

Hopefully will feel some improvement soon and feeling like I need a holiday in the sun.

Any top tips for travelling abroad?

Is it safe to go to Mexico?

Ive been all over the world 🌎 but I don't choose places that need yellow fever vaccine as it's a live vaccine so can't have it on my RA drugs.

Chat to your GP nurse who does vaccines for advice.

However I found just lots of hand washing, using hand gel before and after food . Avoiding ice, water and salad leaves washed in local water ( although reputable hotels will be aware of this) - drink bottled water, all cuts down any risk .

We had a great time in riviera maya Mexico , my daughter did get a tummy bug fro an ice cream stall but was ok after a couple of days.

Make sure you declare your RA on holiday insurance , think it only added £50 for me last holiday .

And enjoy !!'n

Thanks for this good advice....I will be sure to avoid ice cream stalls as we are off to the mayan riviera.

I think Im just a bit nervous as Ive currently got a cold after only 2 weeks into treatment. So Benepali is stopped until Im infection-free.

It is frustrating as Ive already noticed increased pain with hot hands and feet in the last few days, so maybe Benepali was beginning to do its magic!!

Great to hear that it hasn't stopped you travelling. It is good to have some treats to look forward too and the sun helps..

Hi janty,

I've just had my first nasty chesty cough and cold after starting Enbrel at the beginning of the year. Will be switching to Benepali in a months time.

I've had great results on Enbrel, fingers crossed it continues when I go onto Benepali ( I'm sure it will be fine)

I was told to keep injecting with my chest infection and just have extra bloods taken.

Funny how different people get different advice.

Anyway, have a great holiday.

Hiya janty & welcome. You've probably been researching but if you've not been on the gov.com site this relates to Mexico gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic.... As A says it's best to speak with your Practice nurse or Rheumy nurse about any vaccines you should need or shouldn't have with RD. I hope it's not a problem, I've fancied Mexico for a long time but my h wouldn't be able to travel that far.

Simply 'go for it and enjoy!'

Thanks all, I'm now resurfacing after feeling wiped out. Just finished the antibiotics and restarting benepali.

I will take a look at the sites suggested in preparation for holidays. Will give me something to aim for.

Next step is to venture outdoors... one step at a time...

How frustrating, but will keep thinking nice thoughts
