Looking for advice we have a holiday booked for the 4th July 2020 to Ibiza I have had an email from TUI suggesting that this holiday will go ahead .
I have RA and take methotrexate 68 years of age and my husband is 70 years of age all TUI holidays upto and including the 30th June are being refunded or credited. I do not feel that I would want to travel to Ibiza on the 4th July .
Would welcome advice I have insurance however I get the feeling unless the One if us catch the. Virus the insurance will not pay out on fear off catching the virus from travelling.

Thank you not quite sure if we pay the balance in excess of £2000 I believe TUI are not going to ask for the balance until four weeks before change to the 12 weeks before was due 2nd week in April which give a little more time to consider what to do .
I would pay the balance and if it’s cancelled which is a good chance at the moment you get your money back. But if you cancel now you loose your deposit
Deposit was £400 Thankyou for you’re advice . We had and paid for a holiday to Poland on the 4th May same senecio really we believe if Jet 2 are not flying to Poland or Poland not opening their borders we would get our money back . Not quite sure again if we get our money back as we come under the self isolate for 12 weeks requested by the government.
Can’t get through to travel agents to ask questions if you do no one will give black and white answers. Feel guilty as there are families losing loved ones and going on about losing money.
At the moment your insurance will not pay you back as there is no restriction on travelling in July. I would wait for as long as you can, so if TUI are shortening that period you can decide in June. Things might be back to normal, or might not. No-one knows!
I’ve also booked with TUI to travel to Dominican Republic with my daughter due to fly out on 28 June. I’m not being refunded or credited but they are offering free amendments to dates/location. It was expensive, deposit £500 and the balance is due in 5 days.
I’ve thought long and hard about what to do. I don’t want to travel and be at risk and I don’t want to lose my deposit. I do have travel insurance too.
I booked in store and before they shut I popped in and asked them what would happen. I was advised that if I didn’t pay the outstanding balance they would cancel the holiday and I would lose my deposit. If I paid the balance and then the travel restrictions continue then I would get a full refund from them.
However like you, I wouldn’t want to travel if I didn’t feel safe to. If this is the case I feel sure that if I saw my GP that they would confirm that it would be unsafe for me to travel as I’m immunosuppressed and then I could claim from my travel insurance.
I have spoken to my travel insurance company and they said that if I was advised not to travel by my GP they would pay.
It’s a really hard call, this holiday was meant to be to celebrate the hard work my daughter has put into taking her GCSEs, which are now not going to happen. She’s never been on a plane and I’ve not been abroad since before she was born and she’s 16 so it really was something we were looking forward to, I want to make sure, as best I can, that we can make this holiday happen at a safe time and hopefully without the loss of money.
Ooo now not sure if North or South but it’s Uvero Alto?? Lovely all inclusive 5* swim up room ☀️😎
Yes TUI said that if there were travel restrictions still in place they would offer a full refund or free amendments to different dates/location.
I’m sticking with paying for it and hoping for the best. If there are travel restrictions then TUI will give me a refund. If there are no restrictions and I feel safe to travel then happy days. If I don’t feel safe to travel, then I’ll go to my very supportive GP and claim from the travel insurance, hopefully!!!
Thank you and I hope you make the decision that’s right for you.
Just a thought, if you hooked in store you can’t make the payments until the stores reopen so that may give you a little longer. I was frantically trying to pay yesterday, online it said you had to pay in store and the stores just sent out of office emails and an answer message ringing them directly. Eventually I had an email telling me that as I’d booked in store I still had to pay when they reopen. They wouldn’t cancel if my pay date came before they reopened. That may help you??
I read your story and my heart goes out to you. My two children’s GCSEs and diploma cancelled too. It will all work out and you will get on your lovely holiday and your daughter will get her grades allocated but for now it’s crap!! Sending love 💕
A conundrum. I would sit tight as TUI may cancel it anyway. You’re going to be between a rock and a hard place with the insurers. They won’t pay out if you cancel, only if the agent cancels you or, as you said, you’re ill.
I’ve just had similar with Cunard. They cancelled the trip yesterday so I can claim a full refund now. I spoke to the broker last month who said they wouldn’t pay on the insurance if I cancelled it.
TUI may give the option to defer if you speak to them
I'm due to fly on the 24th June to Greece and been advised its not been cancelled... Yet. I'm actually hoping it goes ahead but don't think that will be the case x
Wait!!!! I would say it definitely won't be happening but it has to come from them via Westminster for you to be able to save your money. Obviously they will go to the wire because they don't want to pay out.
No-one will be going anywhere for a long time yet.x
I suggest that you don't go anywhere this year as travel will be a risk for your health. Can you all ask for your trip to be deferred until 2021 when things may have settled a bit. I have done so with my July holiday to Central and Northern Australia. This way you don't loose any money. The world has gone into meltdown this year -there are no exceptions and if you have a chronic and/or terminal illness the best place to be is at home.
We are in a similar predicament we have a flight booked to the USA on May 4th we’ve received an email saying that we can defer the trip until next year but we paid in full. I am currently on lockdown for 12 weeks so wouldn’t be able to go anyway but as we have had to cancel everything else hotels, trains, tours etc I would prefer the option of getting my money back from BA this is because when it’s ok to travel again we don’t want to have to pay much more because the prices have gone up. Think as others have said we will just hang fire for now and see what happens. We bought the flights when BA were having a sale too even though it was over £1000 for two of us.
I think you are wise not to travel immediately after the "Ban" is over as I don't think the worst will over by then. We are in a similar position with a cruise in June.
