Hi, I had my first rituximab infusion yesterday and my second will be in two weeks time. I was just wondering whether I should still have my yearly flu injection whilst on this treatment. I also take azathioprine so my immune system is really getting knocked back. Thanks in advance
Rituximab infusions: Hi, I had my first rituximab... - NRAS
Rituximab infusions
I would say yes but check with your rheumy team as to the best time to have it. They may suggest you have it as soon as possible or leave it a few weeks after the next infusion. Farm
Hi yes I would still get it but I would check first
Ideally you wouldn't have it done too close to your infusions, but this can be hard when flu season is around the time of the infusion, so I agree it is best to check with your rheumatologist about the timing of this.

Hi Gillibun....I am due to have my first RTX infusion in a couple of weeks & my flu jab this morning!!
I asked the Rheumy nurse when it would be best to have it & she said as it was not a live vaccine it made no difference.
But do ask your Rheumy just in case there is some reason you shouldn't have it.

No ! I had this advice from rheumatology last year that the Rituximab just " wiped out" the flu vaccine do there's no point in having it ,
I was told to try get it nearer to the end of the six month period just before next infusion but the vaccines weren't out then! So they said I had to do without.
So I was told no don't have it !
Thanks all, I spoke to my rheumy nurse and she said no injections if any type within a month before or a month after the infusions xx
