Does strokes come often too people that have rheumatoid arthritis. And how often? Do not go to see my neurologist till August
Just wanted to know : Does strokes come often too... - NRAS
Just wanted to know
These days I would imagine it's similar to everyone else. It used to be more, but now more people have treatment that works to keep inflammation down, and better monitoring, I don't think it's the risk it used to be.
Sadly strokes happen, especially if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, smoke, are overweight, poor cholesterol levels etc etc. RA is just one factor that can increase the risks a bit. But strokes are very common.
I hope your doctor has discussed how you can help make sure you don't have any more.
My sister who also has RD, has had two mini-strokes. She also has been treated for many years for slightly raised blood pressure, so she has two risk factors, in that strokes are slightly more common in both populations. But her neurologist has said to her that as both factors are under control now, her risk is the same as anyone else's. That is, her blood pressure is not raised and her inflammatory markers are not raised.
Hope that helps - it makes one feel uncertain about the future having a mini-stroke.
I sincerely hope not. I haven't heard of a greater incidence.
