If you are in receipt of PIP/ DLA before your 65 birthday but get an additional autoimmune disease after that. but after your 65 birthday would it be taken into account when you are reassessed? Or would the party line be you have to have it before the cut off?

Hope this makes sense.

My thoughts depend if you're meaning DLA or PIP because I know diddly squat about DLA as PIP is the first benefit I've both applied for & received. If you're in receipt of PIP now & not due reassessment any time soon I think you'd need to apply for a Change in Circumstances, age would be irrelevant if you're already receiving PIP. If you mean you're changing over from DLA to PIP then I'd think you'd add in your new condition/s when you fill in your form for the changeover reassessment.

If you were 65 or older on 8th April 2013 when your DLA runs out then you won't be reassessed for PIP so I'm unsure & you'd need to check on Gov.uk website.

Sorry I am not being very clear.

It could well be me, I'm due for my lie down! If you're due your reassessment from DLA to PIP (ie under 65) I would think you'll just add in your new condition to the reassessment form. If you get another condition whilst on PIP but over 65 then you'd have to apply for Change in Condition.

Off to lie down now but I'll double check later.

Will try to be clearer I am in receipt of DLA.Higher rate mobility middle rate care component. I was awarded this because of SLE and other underlying conditions.

While my needs have not changed how DWP assess these needs has especially the mobility component . At the time of the award I was under 65 missed the cut of date to automatically stay on DLA by 6months.

While I had RA before my 65 birthday it was still in the investigation stage so probably not termed RA until after my 65 birthday so was wondering if the RA will be taken into account or ignored.

I have looked at web sites but they are not really specific enough.

Sorry This is making my head ache never mind yours!!

Well, you were unfortunate to miss the cut off date to remain on DLA weren't you? Ok, now as you say it's somewhat unusual in that you hadn't had RD confirmed in as many words. My take on it would be that it should be taken into account from the point of view that you were affected by the condition at the time even though you'd not had a diagnosis.

It is a moot point though. Do you have enough time before the form needs sending to join & ask on the Benefits & Works site? It may be worth the joining fee & asking there so you have reliable info, particularly as any supporting evidence you send may have your diagnosis date & some eagle eyed DWP person could pick up on it?

Sorry if it's not overly helpful. :(

Thank NMH yes unfortunate think my RA diagnosis came through a couple of months after the cut off date.

Having said that I get the DLA mobility based on the SLE but of course the criteria has changed.

Thank you for taking the time had not heard about the web site but will certainly look.

Just remember that its not about what illnesses you have, but what your level of disability is. It would only be worth asking for a reassessment if you were fairly sure that your disability needs had changed enough to give you the extra points you would need to get a higher level of award.

My mobility and strength in hands has deteriorated.Since I was awarded DLA.

I am going to wait until they send me the forms to change from DLA to PIP.

Thank you.

I believe that if you are on DLA and 65 or over you continue with DLA. If yours needs have become greater then you would have to apply for PIP because except for over 65's DLA doesn't exist anymore. Would point out its only as I know it but a call to the relevant department would clarify this.

Yes thanks Jackie the problem is the cut off date is April 2013 if you were 65 before that you remanded in DLA however I was 65 in the December so just missed it .So I will be reassessed for PIP which I am not objecting to.

What I am trying to establish is if my RA was diagnosed after that cut off date will it be taken into account when I am reassessed or will I be assessed on my SLE and how that effects me.

In summary the RA was finally diagnosed after my 65 birthday.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Sorry only just seen your post I don't know if this is any help to you I also missed the cut off date by about (10 wks my b.day is june) however I went for my assesment 2 wks ago, and they asked me questions that I didn't even think we're relavent like why didn't you tell us you had a heart murmur why didn't you tell us you had rhumatic fever as a child, well I didn't because that was sixty odd years ago,but she still wrote it down,so I don't see why any illness new or old should not be taken into account, but I also told her my husband has to help me shower etc ,dress he has to help me during the night ,but I still only got the low care that I got when he didn't do all those things 10yrs ago, so its all a bit strange,I ended up with the same money as I did before I told them all those things,so it does make you wonder whether they have already made their minds up before you get there, don't get me wrong I am happy I was successful, just none of the procedure for me seemed to make sense.

Thank you very relevant. Sounded a bit like an interrogation.

How did they know you had a heart murder/ rheumatic fever if you did not put it on the form?

Also interesting your care needs have increased but not recognised. It is a bit of a catch twenty two do you appeal and risk losing it or as you say be pleased you got it.

Do you get the mobility component?

I have not received my forms yet but want to be as prepared as I can do I don't forget anything.

Thank you for responding.

Hi smithfield, yes I do get the mobility which to me is everything, the lady asked a question and my son answered, by saying I had a heart murmur through rhumatic fever as a child, she was nice enough but obviousley just doing a job, and I don't know why she typed for an hour and a half because I have just realized as Jackie 1945 said if you are over 65 you are must be only being questioned for DLA, but why when we have filled in the form for PIP,I could have been carried in on a strecher I still only qualify for what I was already getting, if I or in your case anyone developed another illness you will have to reapply for PIP,
