This is likely a stupid question but, how do you know if you have a temperature when you have no thermometer?

You ask someone to feel your forehead. High temperature usually fells hotter and slightly clammy.

Hot, shivery, sweaty, often rapid pulse .

Get someone else (who's fever free!) to feel your forehead or back of your neck. When a fever starts it usually goes with feeling hot, clammy/ then shivery alternately. Also often a headache. Err on the side of caution at the moment.

You often feel terrible with high temp.

Are you OK?

And feeling hot with all of the above too. The air might feel cold on the skin too.

You feel your body if it’s hot you have a temperature (chest and stomach) this is what they ask you to do when you call 111

I was thinking the exact same thing - I keep forgetting to get a thermometer when I go out

temp up feels different to joint inflammation as far as i know: joint inflammation your feet / ankle/ elbow or wotever seems hot but may not feel v hot if felt-touched by anyone; raised temp cd be hot forehead and/or breaking into sweat.

I can always tell when I have a fever because my eyes feel like they are burning, that is usually my first symptom.

It's best to feel your torso (chest or back) to see if it's hot but make sure you do it when you haven't been exercising, eating or drinking recently as they can all temporarily raise your temperature. Also you can feel a bit "away with the fairies" and either feel shivery or especially sweaty, heavy-limbed and have headache that's a bit different to your normal headaches, if you suffer from them. Obviously, if you can get hold of a thermometer that would be best but at least you can err on the side of caution if not.

I hope your daughter is feeling better. I have a digital thermometer and never thought of its battery when buying some last week for TV remote and torch.

I tried using the thermometer 2 days ago and the battery was dying. Now dead. Had to order a 3v lithium with correct number code for coin battery...

we really need a good thermometer in the home even without COVID-19 around!

That’s true and when all of this is over, I will be getting one

Not looked but they might be sold out for now; mine came from Boots in 2016 after a reaction to Sulphasalazine and an infection; ill for three weeks before blood began to look normal again. That showed me the need for me to have one! Now on biologic infusions so more susceptible. Vital piece of equipment for me. I was wishing for an old mercury one yesterday, lol
