Diagnosed May 2015. since then have lost 3 stones. Had an endoscopy which showed a hiatus hernia 3cms. Worried about weight loss. Help!

Hi Maggie

It is possible for someone with RA to lose weight. This can be due to loss of muscle mass, loss of appetite (e.g. through stress), side effects to medication (e.g. diarrhoea) etc.

This does seem like a lot of weight to lose in a short space of time though. Have you mentioned it to your doctor? It's probably worth making them aware, particularly if there's no obvious explanation to the loss (e.g. change of diet/exercise), as there are many things that can cause sudden weight loss, and some won't be related to RA.
