I get up at least 3 times a night to wee. There has been an advert recently on TV for Urestemol which is a herbal remedy for sensative bladders, only available from Boots. Has anyone tried it and does it work? I take methotrexate , folic acid, warfarin and bi sopranos. Do you think it may react to these drugs?

Bladder problem
This should read UROSTEMOL.
I can't answer your question about contraindications. But just to say, if you're getting up to pee because you've been drinking a lot of water, inconvenient as it is, it's still better than being even slightly dehydrated. Regular water intake is really important when taking Mtx & probably the other drugs too.
Three times a night does seem quite a bit. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? I think before you self medicate it would worth seeing checking for eg infections, and if there's something else that could be done.
I would be more comfortable with you asking your GP. The cause could be a number of things but still better to ask than to take an over the counter med which may or may not be ok to take alongside your prescribed meds. Have you tried not drinking for the last hour before bed, caffeine drinks particularly, coffee, tea, Coke anything with caffeine? It can irritate the bladder & make you want to go more often.
You're not on a diuretic (water tablet) are you?
It's just occurred to me, you say you take warfarin, the med that you're calling bi sopranos isn't bisoprolol is it? My h takes this, at the moment he's on bisoprolol fumarate but he's also had bisoprolol hydrochlorothiazide (includes an added diuretic). It's one of his heart meds & he has a similar problem, a couple of times a night isn't unusual & we know all the stores with loos in our area, we even have a radar key!
Please speak to your GP before you self medicate. It would be worth being checked out for diabetes & urine infection.
If you are getting up that many times in the night, its not normal, and you really need to talk to your GP about it. Either that or contact the continence advice nurses (most areas let you do this without a GP referral) to ask their advice. It could be a problem that could be easily fixed, or a warning sign that something else is going on that could get worse. Just be aware that sometimes too frequent passing urine can mean that your bladder actually isn't emptying fully, and herbal or over the counter remedies could actually make that a lot worse.
Thank you all for your replies. I don't have anything to drink after about 1830 but don't drink a lot of water anyway. I haven't spoken to my GP about this, always feel he is not interested. I am not taking a diuretic. And use caffeine free tea and coffee. Yes I take 1.5 mg of bisopronol fumarate. I didn't know it contains a diuretic.
I have tried to answer all the points raised in your replies!
No, your bisoprolol fumarate doesn't have an added diuretic. It's bisoprolol hydrochlorothiazide that does.
If you take MTX, according to the guidelines you should really be drinking a substantial amount of water. Try to get it in earlier in the day! I know, easier said than done!! Worth a try though!
Hi Magnolia,
Most of us can probably relate to the night time trips!
While herbal remedies sound promising, it does not necessarily mean they are all good, quite the contrary, they can be quite the opposite and could have a detrimental effect on your meds. Probably your best course of action would be to discuss this with your health providers or your pharmacist. Your pharmacist is a wealth of info on drugs and their interactions.
I have just started taking Urestemol and I am often up more than three times in the night. Cannot hang on and I think it's quite common at my age (almost 70) but I do have high hopes of this.
I am very interested to hear if things improve after takingUrestemol. I am on methotrexate ,,warfarin and bisopronol. I don't know if it will react with these drugs.
Are you still having problems Magnolia? Wasn't your GP able to help?
Yes,I am much the same. I have always had a sensitive bladder and feel as though I need to go but don't do all that much when I go to the loo
Has your GP not prescribed anything, assuming you've tried all the normal self-help options?
I haven't visited my GP recently last time I went he said I should turn o train my bladder and try to hold on a bit longer! I then worry I mightwet my pants!!
Well, if you've tried the exercises & it is still no better there are options your GP has which work on the nerves. Do you have a female GP in your Practice? Maybe she'd be more sympathetic to how distressing it is.
