Sulfasalazine

Hi all, hope everybody is well, I've been taking sulfasalazine with hydroxychloriquine for 4 weeks, I've developed a really sore throat and chest, could this be anything to worry about, thankyou lady B 😊xx

Anything to do with chest and breathing is always worth telling your rheumy team.

Hi Lady B,

It may be worth speaking to your rheumy nurse or getting an appointment with you GP about the sore throat and chest; some where in the back of my mind I seem to remember my rheumy nurse telling me to give them a call if I get a sore throat.

It may just be a summer cold or a bug but it is always better to check with the professionals for reassurance.

Thankyou both for your reply, I've made an app to see my go today, I know there is a few people at work with bad coughs and colds, maybe I have picked the virus up to, thanks again. Lady B x😊

Thankyou both for your reply, I'm seeing my gp today, I may have a cold as a few people at work been ill with a cough, hopefully I can get some antibiotics as I feel I may have the virus to, thanks again, lady B x😊

Did you find out what it was? I had the worst sore throat imaginable and it turned out sulfasalazine was causing it. The doctors told me it was pharyngitis so I stopped and restarted the meds to see and it was definitely them

Hi beckywebb04, yes I did go the doctor and I have been put on antibiotics for tonsillitis and chest infection, so hopefully that is the cause, I will see if it gets better after the antibiotics. Hopefully it is the infection causing it, sorry they didn't work for you, thanks. Lady B x😊

LadyB, I had flu like symptons a couple of weeks ago. My worse fear was that I was having a bad reaction being on sulfa and hydroxy. It turned out to be a bad cold. I am fine now....I was so happy that it wasn't my medication. But it's good to get a doctor's opinion.

Thanks sue for your reply, and glad it was just a bad cold for you, I've been on the antibiotics 5 days now and seem to be getting on the better side of it now, lots of colds about at the moment, especially with the change of the weather. Glad you feel better, and thanks again. Lady B 😊x
