Pins and needles: Hi does anyone wake up with pins and... - NRAS
Pins and needles
Yes but no idea why and it passes soon after x
Every morning and in both hands, well fingers !
I had pins and needles in my hand and a lot of pain and stiffness with it. I had to have an op for Carpel tunnel. I have RA which maybe caused it.
Neuropathy is normally symmetrical such as both feet or both hands. Pins and needles in one hand probably means that you slept on it.
I hope you feel better.
Mainly left side, having some test arranged by hospital
As Jacksnana has said it could be carpal tunnel. I have this in my right hand. Speak to your Rheumy Nurse, mine got me a pair of splints for my hands/wrists as most nights I was waking up with pins & needles.
As has been mentioned before it does sound like carpal tunnel but could also be caused by pinched nerve in the neck. Carpal tunnel typically affects the middle finger, index finger & thumb though my ring finger was also affected. It's usually worse on waking & in the evening & I found & dangling my arm over the edge of the chair relieved the achey type pain in my upper arm & the pins & needles somewhat. My Consultant prescribed a splint to wear whilst waiting for my op but I didn't find it helped.
It's definitely worth mentioning to your Rheumy, whatever it is it needs to be sorted, more so if it's becoming a problem with your grip.
I had it 6 years ago - it turned out to be cubital tunnel syndrome which was fixed by surgery to move the nerve in my elbow. I was diagnosed by a physiotherapist.
had pins & needles in left thigh about a month back turned out to be shingles.
I some times loose all feeling in one hand it goes completely dead
I get this too. It is so bad it wakes me up several times a night. Both hands. Mine is down my arm and into my little finger and ring finger. When I wake I struggle to bend my fingers as they are stiff.
