In recent weeks I have developed a numbness in both the outside of my hands and now the thumbs. Which Doctor do I contact ?

I get this if I've been lying on side .side is numb with pins and needles and in arms and hand when going in bath with hot water .Sitting in same position for a longtime can bring it on .No easy answer 😏

An amazing array of symptoms. It is exhausting. After two years of tests, specialists and drugs I am in need of a change. I see Rheumy on Wednesday for cortisone injections in my hips. I scheduled Rituxan infusion for the 31st but my genetic reports indicate it is not for me. So time to stand my ground. I see no point in repeating a drug that does not work. Perhaps this will lead to a new approach or just a break from drugs, again. It is so hard to know when to say no.

What med are you currently on?

I've had weeks where I am constantly tingly and numb. Sometimes just my feet, sometimes just my hands and arms, sometimes my whole left side, which is really weird and scary. If only I kept a journal of all the psycho things I feel in my body... No one would believe it. I don't even know if it is my RA or lingering side effects from leflunomide and plaquenil which I tried 1-2 months ago! But you're right, it's super frustrating and I'm in a really bad place now. Don't know what to do.

It is so difficult to know what the best course of action is. I have spent two and a half years and have gone through four DMARDS and now four Biologics on top of cardiology, Lyrica, Amitriptalin .......I have a lot of allergies so had genetics done as well. The mutations I have indicate Rituxan, current Biologic, will not work for me. So despite having agreed to one more round, I am not going to do it. So now back to drug free.

wow, that sounds so intense. I really feel for you! How are you supposed to be managing pain in the meantime?!?

I hope I am not annoying you by all my questions. I hope you are able to find something ASAP! Have you ever considered low dose neltrexone? I have been seriously thinking about it.

Have not herd of neltrexone. I use an oil vaporizer. This also manages inflammation as I am allergic to Naproxen. Works for me.

Hi Damaged i get pins and needles regular to the point were my whole right side goes numb even down the side of my face this has gone on for over a year now i have spoke to my rheumy and GP i have had many tests including MRI and have been in stroke clinic for 2 days observation still unsure but was told may be migrain aura this is similar to migrain but without the headache i am starting to think it may be a reaction to MTX so am trying to keep a record of when it happens and what i am doing at the time, I would make sure you speak to 1 or both and make sure they are aware of it dont just ignore it.

Sorry cant be more helpful

Good luck

Hi. Your first call is your GP. They will refer you to a neurologist as it seems like your nerve endings have gone. A Neurologist will order a Nerve Conduction Test. I had it done & it showed i had a problem caused peripheal Neuropathy . i have spelt it wrong but search the internet & see the results. Sam

I had nerve conduction tests in 2015. I apparently have extra nerves in right leg lol. I am always finding these little anomalies. My thumbs have kicked into tenosynovitis. It maybe time to redo the cortisone injections. Is there a way to take it besides injections? My shoulders, hips, fingers, thumbs...The last shoulder was done three years ago so it did last a very long time and was great. Returned full mobility but hands are real bad today.

When I first had neurological problems, Carpal Tunnel, it was my Consultant who referred me to Neurology who arranged tests. Second time it was after I'd started leflunomide, I had problems with my legs & bilateral CT. I mentioned it to my GP as I happened to see her & she said she'd be happy to refer me but as I was due to see my Rheumy she handed it over to her & she also arranged repeat tests a few months later. So, really either your GP or Rheumy can refer you to Neurology, if you're due to see your Rheumy any time soon then ask him/her, if not make an appointment to see your GP.

I hope the tests are conclusive & your issues are easily dealt with.

Thanks, I see her on Wed so will discuss it then. My neurologist is her husband. They are both awesome.

Pins and needles or numbness are both linked to low or deficient vitamin B12. Both are quite prominent symptoms. Low or deficient B12 often gets over looked.

There is a book by Sally Pacholok called 'Could It Be B12 Deficiency, an Epidemic of Misdiagnosis.'

Low or deficient B12 often gets over looked, also be aware there is a 'grey area' in the b12 bloods ranges that also gets over looked.

There is another community site here on Health Unlocked if you are interested called PAS (Pernicious Anemia Society, which is also for B12 deficiency or suspected B12 Def.) you can ask the same questions.

I have checked B6 and B12, calcium, sodium, all normal. MRI’s show Tendinopathy, Synovitis, OA, bulging disks(7), . Also recently developed lipoma cysts.

Hi. Describe your problems to your own doctor they will assess you & i think a visit to a Neurologist for help. It could be neuropathy. Hope you are not in pain.
