Arthritis in ear

Hi

Can anyone tell me if you can get arthritis in your ear The nurse says you can not get it ear. I read on the Internet u can as theirs a little bone in ear I know u can get in gums as I suffer with this

I have read research that says that in rare cases of severe RA the inflammation process can spread very widely and affect the joints between the small bones in your ear, but it's not common nowadays and especially if the drugs are controlling your inflammation. But problems with gums are usually due to infections that are a side effect of the Rheumatoid Arthritis rather than the disease itself (unless you mean the joint at back of your jaw which can be affected).

I have rheumatoid in my jaw amongst pretty much every joint in my body but my jaw causes pain and a blocking effect with my hearing, its like the effect when you fly and your ears need to pop but quicker and about every few seconds when my jaw plays up, I hope this is of some help,

I don't know if you can get RA in your ears. For it to be RA the joints have to have a synovial lining I think. I get awful pain in my ears at night sometimes, this is coming from my jaw. I am waiting to see a specialist. Do you have any jaw symptoms? Has a doctor looked in your ears to rule out infection/virus.

A few months ago I was getting jaw pain it would last a few hours sometimes all day I seen the nurse she said you can get ra in jaws . I was on methotrexate for 3 months but i had bad side affects so I come of them. I take Sulfasalazine am still getting flares up am see the consulant on wed so hopefully I get sorted

Hi Shaz, I'm sure I get ra in my ears. It hurts if you press them and sometimes just the pressure of the pillow hurts. I also found I was getting tinnitus before methotrexate but this has subsided since starting my injections.

Not sure but i went to doc with sore jaws he said you can get it anywhere there is a joint

I have ear and jaw pain. The eye doc. said that I have ear arthritis. It is the same systems as TMJ. It hurts when I put my head on my pillow or when pressure is on my head. (Right Side only). When I first got it, it was very painful, could not eat. or even think. It has let up alot. So now I am able to function. It comes and goes. Hope this helps someone.

Well I tried heating pads and cold packs and taking Aleve, nothing worked, kept hurting, I tried rubbing my head. So I just left it alone and it just calmed down on its own. I read about it and ask the doc. I did try exercising my neck, I do think maybe that is helping, you have to keep moving it. It also feels like I have sinus drainage. The side of my head hurts a little also. Its really weird, nothing I have ever experienced before. At least I can eat more food. For two months I could only eat yogurt and apple sauce. At first my ear was popping really bad, then that stopped. Everyday was different with the pain. Just hang in there!

There isn't really any joint in your ear, but there is cartilage and I believe you can get inflammation in cartilage. I've hear quite a few folk with spondyloarthritis say they get pain in the cartilage of their ears, but then spondy is associated with enthesitis, rather than synovitis.
